Consulting Services

Farley consulting services are based around the following:

Benchmarking

In many businesses the widely available statistics such as annual tons do not in themselves measure the true size, or efficiency of the business.

Central to our consulting service is our ability to carefully analyse this general input/output data in your business and turn it into meaningful figures that can then be used to measure your productivity against a theoretical best practice and against your industry peers.

Workflow analysis
Here we seek to analyse the workflow of your business and see how it will best fit in your existing establishment or in a new one you may be planning. Our expertise on material handling systems, process constraints and the many other aspects that impact on your efficiency are assessed and taken into account when providing our report.

Methods and machine configuration and layouts
Here we look at the methods you are using to process the materials, the types and numbers of machines and how they should be laid out relative to material handling facilities, quality control, receiving and dispatch.

Process control and management

Even the best laid out and equipped plants will not function well unless there is a good quality process control system that ensures that the right parts are processed on the right machines, that ensures that your nesting is as efficient as possible and that quality checks are made and deliveries made on time.

We don't know all the answers

In fact the person who knows most of the answers is you and your people. Our job as a consultant is to act as a facilitator and as one who can bring in fresh ideas. Every business is different, often even each branch of every business is different... but what we all know is that they can all get better....

A builder as a consultant
Some people may feel that a machine builder would not be independent enough to be an unbiased consultant. Our experience and the experience of our clients is that because we are involved on a day to day basis in the plate processing field, and that we and or our sister companies cover all the main metal processing methods (plasma, fame, waterjet, laser and drilling) we can be independent of any one technology. Unlike general consultants we are fully up to date on the capabilities of the existing technologies as well as being highly cognizant of the emerging trends. We have a much more detailed and relevant knowledge of the nitty gritty than do the more general industrial and manufacturing consultants.

Why use a consultant?
With the average initial investment of a steel service centre entering the value added processing business being close to or more than $1m, a $ 10 -$20,000 consulting job could make a significant and lasting difference to the profitability of the operation. If you take the overall investment in a fairly modest operation over 5 years.... machine, staff, space, material handling etc, the investment can easily be three to five million. Farley consulting services can leverage this investment to provide far better returns.
